Umkc School Of Dentistry

I am a sophomore in high school and want to be a dentist, any advice?
I have figured that I really want to do dental work. I plan to go to UMKC (University of MO, Kansas City). I don’t want to leave Missouri, and they have a School Of Dentistry there. Has anyone heard anything about it? I have researched it a little bit on the Internet.
Should I specialize, like be an orthodontist or oral surgeon? Or just a General Dentist? Also, how long does it take in college to become a dentist? Any advice from college students in dentistry or experienced dentists would be nice, as well as the advice of anyone who feels they can help. I appreciate anything. Thank you!
attached below is the website for the American Dental Association. you eventually need to take the DAT (dental school admission exam).
since you’re still in high school, it might be a good idea to shadow a dentist or interview a dentist or volunteer at a dental office just to start off and make sure you really want to do this and are comfortable there.
you’ll need good grades +).
the website should get you started, it has a lot of links to dentist stuff.
general dentistry vs. specialization is something you need to clearly distinguish: do you want to perform surgery and anesthesia? do you want to take out cavities and do cleaning? i’m sure there are a ton of different things that different dentists do, you should probably find out what and then decide what you want to be. +)
